How to Apply for TSA Approval
APPLICATION GUIDE
This Application Guide will help you through the AFSP application process. It is imperative that you read this guide completely before continuing the application process To comply with the TSA requirements for flight training in the U.S. you must first register on line with the Alien Flight Student Program (AFSP). It is best to initiate this process at least one month prior to departing your country for the U.S.
You will be requested to submit the following information on the application:
- For the Training Request Date, request a date that is 10 days after you plan to arrive at the flight school. You have 180 days to initiate training, and one year to complete training, from the Training Request Date on the approval email.
- You must have a current, valid, passport. You will be required to scan your passport and up load it during the AFSP registration process. A quality color copy of your passport in PDF format will speed the process.
- You will need a valid e-mail address they can use to communicate with you.
- Your flight training will be under Category III.
- You should apply for permission to initiate the Initial training.
- Enter the following aircraft for the applicable phases of training
Initial – PA-28 aircraft and Precision Flight Control AATD
Instrument – PA-28 aircraft and Precision Flight Control AATD
MEL – BE-76 aircraft and Precision Flight Control AATD
We highly recommended that you secure all the funds for this training prior to completing the AFSP application and paying the required application fee.
Non-US students may not begin actual flight training in an aircraft until a “Permission to Initiate Training” email from the AFSP has been received for that course. Do not wait for this before you travel to the US; you will receive this email after you arrive at PFT.
